I had my Fire TV box plugged into my Harman Kardon receiver. It worked great, until I tried to watch a movie in 4k. I got a message saying that 4k wasn't supported. In researching, I found out that my HK AVR 1710 HDMI ports don't support 4k. But my 70" Sharp tv does. I plugged the Fire TV directly into the tv, and I now have 4k. The problem is, I want the sound out of my home theater system. I tried running an optical cable from the tv audio out to the receiver, and it works, but the tv volume has to be turned on, meaning I'm getting sound from both the receiver and tv. If I turn down or mute the sound from the tv, I get nothing from the receiver. Does anyone know how I get around this?

In the TV settings there should be an option to turn off internal speakers or set audio to a receiver vs internal TV speakers
